| Adobe ships InDesign, After Effects, InCopy updates
Adobe today released several updates to its software applications for professionals, including After Effects, InDesign, and InCopy. The Adobe After Effects CS3 Professional software 8.0.2 update provides Panasonic P2 format support, Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard compatibility fixes, Mac OpenGL support for supported video cards under Mac OS X v10.4.10 and v10.5, and other important fixes. The update for its professional video editing solution is 106.3MB and is available online. Adobe also noted that the Adobe InCopy CS3 5.02 update, for its provides key fixes in the areas of character alignment, undo and redo, text and fonts, dictionaries, import/export graphics, and others; the installer includes fixes from all previously released InCopy CS3 5.0.x updates (and previous InCopy CS3 5.0.x updates are no longer available separately.
Xacti HD1a HD camcorder adds wide display, more
Sanyo on Thursday introduced the Xacti HD1a, a compact digital media camera that records both still pictures and digital video. It does it all onto an SD flash memory card. The Xacti HD1a is coming in September for $699.99. The Xacti HD1a records video in 720p and grabs 5.1 megapixel still images. Because it uses SD cards instead of bulky tapes or optical media, it's much more compact than other camcorders. It uses a 10x optical zoom lens and 2.2-inch LCD display. New features in the HD1a include a 16:9 widescreen still picture mode, in-camera video editing, a 30 frames-per-second 320 x 240 MPEG-4 pixel video recording mode called “Web-SHQ," optimized for the video iPod. The 16:9 still image mode grabs 3.8 megapixel images in the same wide-screen format as the Xacti HD1's digital videos.
Murray stuns Federer
Andy Murray claimed a remarkable three-set victory over world number one Roger Federer to progress to the second round of the Dubai Open. The British number one narrowly lost the first set 8-6 on a tie break but clinically took the first break point in the second set to break Federer's serve in the sixth game. Murray then broke Federer in the fifth game of the third set before he served out for a 6-7 (6/8) 6-3 6-4 win, his second straight victory over the Swiss having defeated him in Cincinnati in August 2006. Both players held serve in an entertaining first set but the world number one was able to break Murray twice during the tie break to win it 8-6. In the second set Murray led 3-2 and, after over an hour of the match, he was given his first opportunity to break the defending champion's serve at 30-40.

It was my first time seeing the film, which has been on the festival circuit since Telluride back in September. I don't think I can even begin to qualify it. I'm pretty sure it's an undeniable work of art, but beyond that, I need time to let it soak in and, most assuredly, I'll need another viewing. I didn't even mosey over to Haynes during the reception because, quite frankly, I have no idea what I would have said to him. In any case, my opinion isn't what's important. What IS important is how floored the viewers in attendance were. There was even a cryer. Yeah, a cryer. Michael Mann was in attendance, said he enjoyed the film, and spent quite a while making the rounds during the reception. Most enthusiastic, however, was Ben Foster, who could not contain his sheer glee, not only at "I'm Not There," but at what he calls a "great year for movies." He had recently come from seeing the Coen brothers' "No Country for Old Men," which had him on a high to go along with the Chivas Regal he was throwing back.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama (BCBS/AL) is Alabama's largest healthcare provider and insurer, with more than 3 million customers and more than 4,000 employees. BCBS/AL needed more computing power to manage its current workload plus additional new contracts and services. The company was concerned that adding more physical servers to the 500 it already had would make data center management cumbersome and send power and cooling costs soaring.
BCBS/AL turned to HP to install 48 HP ProLiant BL460c and six HP ProLiant BL480 server blades in HP BladeSystem c3000 and c7000 enclosures.
